Every year, TECT quietly helps make the Western Bay a better place to live.
It supports the sports clubs, the arts organisations, community groups, environmental projects, events and facilities that make the Bay a special place to live our lives.
Much of this happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt across our region every day.
TECT is one of the Western Bay's most valuable community assets.
Through careful investment and sound financial management, it now returns close to $40M each year to strengthen our communities and support the organisations that bring people together.
TECT belongs to all of us. Its Trustees are entrusted with protecting this asset and ensuring it continues to benefit both current and future generations.
That responsibility requires good judgement, financial discipline and a long-term perspective.
Every TECT election helps decide who will help steward one of our region's greatest community assets.
That's why choosing experienced, community-minded trustees matters.
That's why I've decided to stand for election as one of your TECT Trustees.
Why I am
standing
"For more than fifty years, the Western Bay has been my home."
It's where Michelle and I have raised our family, built lifelong friendships and enjoyed the opportunities this remarkable region has provided. Like many local families, we've benefited enormously from living here, and like you, understand the importance of protecting TECT into the future.
Over that time I've come to know the people, organisations and communities that make the Western Bay such a special place. I've also seen the important role TECT plays in quietly supporting the clubs, charities, schools, environmental projects and community organisations that help our region thrive.
My career has taken me from senior leadership roles with Zespri and Fonterra, to representing the Bay of Plenty in Parliament, and now serving on governance boards focused on the future of our region. Those experiences have reinforced the importance of sound judgement, careful stewardship and making decisions that stand the test of time.
TECT is one of our region's most valuable community assets. I believe it is being well managed, and I would be honoured to contribute my experience, perspective and commitment to help ensure it continues strengthening our communities for generations to come.
Experience
that matters
Over 50 years I have seen this region grow from pockets of small settlements to a regional population pushing 250,000. I went to school here, got married here, had our kids here, worked in our largest sector, kiwifruit, across multiple hands-on and executive roles.
I have spent time in a leadership role at Fonterra, followed by nine years as your local MP. I have sat on various boards across my career and currently chair Priority One and sit on the Manaaki Kaimai Forest Trust.
Even more importantly I have cheered on our local teams — from the Steamers, to Papamoa Football Club, to the Tauranga Whai — and even faced down my fear and participated in a stage play.
I am from this place, and I have the connections and experience that can usefully serve the TECT Board.
How to vote
Every household in the Western Bay will receive a voting pack outlining candidate information and how to vote online. You will receive this information towards the end of September.
The voting is a simple online process where you are asked to vote for up to three candidates. The three candidates with the most votes are declared successful at the end of voting towards the end of October.
